Trekking on Monte Grappa will be appreciated both by those who want a holiday in close contact with Nature and by those looking for traces of history, between the mule tracks and the refugesof the Great War. Today we will show you all the routes you can follow, between mountain huts and chamois.

The tour of the alpine farmsteads

This route can be done on foot or by MTB, by renting one at our hotels. You can have fun challenging yourself and your limits by going through the various climbs, and then find refreshment with the products of the farmsteads.
Our advice is to take this tour without haste, to be able to enjoy the wonders of the landscape.
Along your way you will meet Malga Alpe Madre, Finestron, Malga Forcelletto, Malga Bocchette and finally the Bassano Refuge at the top of Grappa, where you can admire the most enchanting panorama of these places.
Stop to visit some of them. In the “Cason da fogo” of the mountain farmsteads, where they used to warm up and eat after a day of work, while in the “Cason da formaio” they used to produce cheese. Above all, however, taste the butter, which is among the best in all of Italy, the cheeses, the “puina”, or the fresh ricotta, or the “casatelle”. The malga del Grappa are also houses where travelers can find home-made bread, toasted polenta, cured meats and a few glasses of good local wine.

Walking with the Meatte chamois

One of the most beautiful experiences you can have during a trekking on Monte Grappa is to meet chamois. For this route, we start from Pian dea Baea, walking along the road of the galleries, up to Mount Boccaor, and then back. It is not uncommon to meet animals and, also for this reason, it is one of the most beautiful excursions you can do in this area. You will be accompanied by a guide, if you wish, who will explain the morphology of Monte Grappa, its rocks, but also plants and flowers. Then you will have lunch in the farmstead, with a tasting of cheeses and salami.

The Meatte path was built to move Italian troops during the Great War. You will pass through many tunnels, which will open onto panoramic balconies from which you can admire the Po valley crossed by the Piave river.

Great War itinerary

Another route that we recommend, if you are a history enthusiast, is the one dedicated to the Great War, during which you will encounter monuments, museums and trenches that can still be visited.
Monte Grappa was in fact also the stage of the battles of the First World War.
In particular, we suggest you visit the Monte Grappa memorial monument, one of the largest and most important ossuaries of the Great War, located on the summit of Mount at 1775m above sea level.
To get there, you can follow the path of the ancient Cadorna mule track, one of the main war paths, which runs alongside the so-called “heroes’ forest”. The hairpin turn of Ca’ Tasson is the point where the first Austro-Hungarian and Italian lines met. Going up again, from the mountain ridge path you can also see Venice, if the day is particularly clear.

If you love nature and outdoor life, for this Summer we have prepared a special package for you: “Bike & Hike” to which you can add this and other itineraries of our proposal “Living Nature in Bassano del Grappa”.
