This is the perfect path for both cycle tourism lovers, even hiring one of our bikes, and for the ones who prefer an easy walk. This path is accessible to all indeed, and it doesn’t require a special training or athletic abilities.

Where the name comes from

The Tobacco Highlevel is so called because from the second half of 17th century many cultivations of this plant have been developed, and for centuries its trade revolutionized the local economy. Today, even if it is not cultivated anymore, there still are terraces with dry stone walls that makes the landscape so peculiar.

The Tobacco Highlevel follows the Brenta Valley and stops over at different hamlets that are linked by paths and mule tracks, i “troidi del tabacco” utilizzati in passato dai contrabbandieri, dando vita ad un lungo percorso che taglia trasversalmente le pendici dell’Altopiano.

The union Montana Valbrenta traced the itinerary that is about 35 kilometers long. It starts from the Old Bridge of Bassano, close by our hotel, and finishes at Costa di Valstagna. Thanks to an overpass the path can be linked to the Brenta trail, that goes down the river.

Tobacco High level path scattered museum

This route will let you discover not only the nature that surrounds Bassano del Grappa and our Hotel, but also many places of great historical and cultural importance, so that it earned the definition of “scattered museum“. Along the walk you can visit the Caves of Oliero, that will appeal also to the kids, and pass by the Capuchins convent and Ca ‘Erizzo, a fifteenth-century villa now home to the Hemingway Museum.

If, on the other hand, you are curious to taste some of the best wines in the area, stop off at Villa Angarano. This Palladian villa is located in the municipality of Bassano del Grappa and, with its vineyards, extends to the right bank of the Brenta river. The five Bianchi Michiel sisters today carry on with dedication and love the great tradition of Venetian wine, and tasting it inside this wonderful villa will truly be one of the most beautiful experiences you can have in these places.

Finally, you can visit the Museum of Tobacco of Carpanè, dedicated to the cultivation of tobacco in the Brenta valley.
